Joan Román, the former Man City footballer, has just changed his name to Goku, legally. The Spanish winger announced his new Dragon Ball-inspired name on Instagram, asking everybody to respect his decision.

Román, currently 27 years old, plays for the Polish second division club Miedź Legnica. “Hungry for more,” captioned Goku in his latest post, followed by “#Gokuseason.” He even updated his profile to a picture that depicts him in Super Saiyan Blue form, also known as Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, which is a form described in the anime as a “Saiyan with the power of a Super Saiyan God [who] further transforms himself into a Super Saiyan,” and a form that even Goku (from the anime) admitted required too much energy in the Tournament of Power.

Goku Román notes that his new name is a better reflection of his personality and attitude towards life: “I am grateful to Joan for everything I lived and the positive things and lessons that have given me.

But now I am Goku. I chose that name because I feel identified with its values and what it represents to me: perseverance, empathy, growth against obstacles, light, and positivity.”
